Hey y’all,
I’m Melinda.
And I was never broken.
Creator of The Bloom. Author. A successful career in Supply Chain and Customer Service. Wife. Mom. Woman who finally stopped shrinking and started tending.
She did not build The Bloom from a place of having it all together. She built it from the place where everything finally got honest.
For years, she was good at everything
except tending herself.
For most of her life, Melinda played small. She stayed quiet when she should have spoken up, because she did not want to rock the boat or make things harder for anyone else. So she absorbed the weight. She kept the peace for everyone while she was quietly abandoning her own.
She also spent most of her life very overweight, to the point where a doctor once told her her heart was not strong enough for a medical test she needed. That was a turning point. She had to start tending to herself. Her family needed her. And she wanted to be there for them.
So she had weight loss surgery. She walks three to five miles most days. She maintains a 120-pound weight loss. She is proud of that. And she is honest about all of it.
“I fixed the outside. I started to look like the person I always thought would make me happy. And losing the weight did not fix me.“
Yes, she has more energy. She hung a hammock swing on the back porch and for the first time in her adult life, she did not have to wonder if it would hold her.
But even in a smaller body, she was still putting herself last. Still feeling selfish for wanting things. Still treating herself like she had to earn the right to be tended to.
Because she was never broken. She was simply untended.
No one ever explicitly told her that she deserved the same care she gave so freely to everyone else. So she started tending to herself, intentionally, imperfectly, awkwardly at first. And slowly, everything began to shift. That is where The Bloom was born.
As her boys grew up, she finally had space
to ask the questions she had been afraid to ask.
- What do I actually need?
- What do I actually want?
- Who am I when I am not holding everything together?
Those questions were uncomfortable at first. But they were honest. And honesty is where growth begins.
She realized she had spent years tending everyone else’s life while neglecting her own. Not lacking discipline. Lacking nourishment. Not weakness. Depletion. Not lost. Just in a season she did not yet understand.
That is when The Bloom began to take root.
Growth does not come from fixing yourself.
It comes from tending yourself.
These are not steps. They are invitations. And when you begin noticing what your life is already asking for, everything shifts.
Nourishing without guilt
Your body and your mind deserve to be fed first, not last, not after everyone else is handled.
Rooting yourself in safety
Living in alignment with who you actually are, not the version of you that keeps everyone comfortable.
Pruning what no longer serves
Letting go is not giving up. It is wisdom. And it makes room for what actually belongs in your life.
Cultivating what matters most
Protecting your best energy for the things and people that deserve it, including yourself.
Honoring your actual season
You are not behind. You are in a season. And seasons change when you stop forcing the wrong one.
She lives the way she teaches.
Slow, honest, and rooted.
Melinda lives in the Deep South with her husband, the man who has been her steady root through every season of her becoming. Their two sons are grown and building lives of their own. She calls that the season that finally gave her permission to bloom.
She writes the way she lives now. With a whole lot of heart, a little bit of humor, and zero apology for taking up space.
If you are here, she is glad you found your way. You are not behind. You are in a season. And seasons change.
